GI and Immune Treatment

The Gastro-Intestinal and Immune systems

Many people may wonder why we have to pay so much attention to the GI and Immune systems in order to be optimally healthy. It is actually impossible to be healthy unless these systems are in good working order. The GI and Immune systems are intimately related to each other. Up to 70% of the immune system actually resides in the intestinal track.

A strong immune system is necessary to fight off invading organisms that are opportunistic – waiting for any opening or weakness in the system to strike. There are many types of organisms that can invade our bodies. The five main types are:
Viruses
Yeast
Bacteria
Parasites
Lyme and its Coinfections (Babesia, Erlickia, etc.)

Many people have all five! It is impossible to feel well and have a normal energy level when your immune system is fighting these chronic battles. These infections cause chronic inflammation in the body, which is a known risk factor for many diseases. These infections have also been linked to the causation of autoimmune disorders such as possibly Multiple Sclerosis and Rheumatoid Arthritis, among others. Even cancer has been called a “failure of the immune system” since our body is probably producing errant cancer cells every day, but our immune system is catching and killing those cells before they can do real damage. A strong immune system is incredibly important to a long and healthy life.

The GI tract is also essential for a healthy life. It is responsible for a lot of detoxification, and the good bacteria that reside there are important for making products that actually feed our colon cells, and even make important vitamins for us! The GI tract also has to digest and absorb our food, of course. If digestion is not optimal, then inevitable nutritional deficiencies will ensue, leading to chronic illness. A large percentage of people have frequent GI complaints, such as cramping, or acid reflux, or irritable bowel symptoms, which greatly interfere with quality of life. Many times these problems can be improved or even cured with proper testing and treatment with natural means such as a diet free of foods that the patient may be allergic or intolerant to, and sometimes natural supplements such as digestive enzymes and probiotics. Only by doing to proper tests can a customized treatment plan be determined.

I.V. Nutrient Therapy

Optimal Health Spectrums provides Nutrient Therapies by both infusion and injection.  I.V. Nutrient therapy is the infusion of vital nutrients such as vitamins and minerals directly into the bloodstream. This bypasses the digestive system and allows for maximum concentration of nutrients to reach the cells and tissues where it is needed the most.  Nutrient Therapy is a fast and efficient way to replenish vitamins and minerals and revitalize the immune system, thereby promoting optimal health.

We offer a large variety of vitamin infusions, ranging from Vitamin A, D, C, and E, as well as the B vitamins and Folinic Acid. We also offer infusion of several minerals, including magnesium, zinc and selenium. In addition, we administer phosphatidylcholine and glutathione intravenously. IV Nutrient therapy is beneficial for many conditions including but not limited to gastrointestinal disorders, Fibromyalgia, Cancer, Viral Infections, Chronic Infections, neurological disorders, asthma, wound healing, and immune function.

People with vitamin and mineral deficiencies suffer internally with issues such as fatigue and decreased immune function.  They can also be afflicted externally with skin issues such as exzema, acne, uneven tone, and dull, flaky skin.

In addition to IV therapies, Optimal Health Spectrums also offers essential nutrients such as Vitamin B12 and D by injections.  These injections take only a couple of minutes.  Infusions typically take 30-60 minutes.   Our registered nurses have trained proficiency in infusion and injection therapies.
