OHS Adult Female Hormone Testimonial

I had always been a pretty healthy person. I had a normal weight my entire life without any special diet or exercise program. Then, all of a sudden, after the age of about 40, I started to gain weight. Nothing I could do seemed to stop the progression. At the same time, I was craving carbs more than before, and my appetite seemed increased. My life was stressful with work and kids like everyone else’s, so I didn’t think much of it. But as time went on, I started having more and more trouble sleeping. I would wake up at 4:00 a.m. almost every night, unable to fall back asleep. I became more and more tired, struggling to get through the day, using more caffeine, and then needing a drink when I got home to calm down. My libido was gone, and this was a big issue in my marriage. I felt like my patience for my family was lower than it used to be. My skin lost its glow and started to show more wrinkles and age spots. I was having more “senior moments” where I was struggling to remember things and think clearly. My regular GYN doctor brushed off my complaints as “normal” for my age. Eventually, I started having hot flashes, which were very uncomfortable. Finally, the GYN paid attention to that, and gave me oral estrogen and progesterone. While those pills did stop the hot flashes, the sleep problem, low libido, brain fog, and weight gain continued unabated. After a few years of that, I heard about bioidentical hormones. I read several of Suzanne Somers books, and knew that this was what I wanted to do. I also learned that taking estrogen orally is a very bad idea, and may have made some of my problems worse.

Finally, I saw Dr Mielke. She ordered blood tests to find out what my baseline hormone levels were. I was low in everything! Estrogen, Progesterone, Cortisol, Thyroid, DHEA, Testosterone, Pregnenolone, Melatonin – they were all low. No wonder I didn’t feel great. I started replacing the hormones with creams and pills. It has taken a few months to figure out the right doses for me, but I already feel better. A friend of mine noticed an improvement in my complexion almost immediately. I have more energy and can make it through the day without feeling exhausted, and don’t crave caffeine, carbs and alcohol like I used to. I have lost about 5 pounds in the first two months without even trying. My brain is working better, and I feel mentally sharper. One of the best things is that I can sleep now! My sleep is restful, and I feel good in the morning when I get up. I had forgotten what that feels like. My interest in my husband has improved, which makes him happy! Overall, on bioidentical hormones I feel better than I have in years, and am definitely going to stick with it.

 OHS Testimonial

My 9 year old daughter was diagnosed with ADHD in September 2008. With her failing in school, and her self esteem lowering by the second, I was really concerned with helping her fast. Her father and I felt uncomfortable putting her strictly on medication so I began researching different alternatives. We soon became patients of Optimal Health Spectrums.

Our first appointment was absolutely wonderful. During our meeting, we learned about the many possibilities we were able to do for our daughter to help with her struggles. We discussed diet changes, nutritional supplements, and other avenues of treatment for her ADHD.

Our daughter came with us to her first appointment and was really comfortable with the staff and environment at the clinic. She had a blood draw after the first appointment to get an idea of what was going on inside her body. We were given tests to complete from home, our daughter’s new diet, and some supplements. I was very excited even though I was informed that changes wouldn’t happen over night. My husband was skeptical but still promised to try anything to help his daughter. We collected the tests and sent them out. We spent an hour or two researching her new diet and took off for the grocery stores.

It was a great experience bringing our daughter with us shopping because it helped prepare her for the new changes she was about to make in her troubled life. We started the diet, which was a bit of a challenge, but we knew we had to fully commit to the recommendations given to us.  We learned a little more with every passing day. The supplements were easy to give because my daughter can swallow pills. The ones that were not in pill form we just kept trying until we found a way that made it easy for her.

One thing I did was make a list to hand out to her grandparents, because they are her after-school care providers. We got more grief from them than anyone else. At first, their disbelief in the whole thing made it discouraging, but we were fully committed to make it work.

I’d say about 3 weeks into it, all these changes happened, and we ALL started noticing a difference. She was calmer, more focused, and showed interest in things she never cared about before. The little bumps she had on the skin on the backs of her arms that we always thought were just hereditary went away. Her teacher even asked us what we were doing and told us not to stop. Her grandparents started asking what foods they should buy to keep at the house for her. Her time spent with her brother became calmer, with less drama. There were just so many wonderful changes that even my daughter noticed herself. Where she used to complain about foods she couldn’t have, and the supplements she didn’t want to take, she now was the first to remind us, “I can’t have that, it has milk.”

At our second follow-up appointment we received a copy of all the lab test results. I was very pleased that the right changes were made in the beginning. They knew more about the inside of my daughter’s body than her own pediatrician. My daughter came back high on her food allergy test for dairy, wheat, gluten, casein, peanuts, and soy. These were things that she had been getting every day until our first appointment at OHS. Removing those made a HUGE difference in her life. From the test results, we were able to see her vitamin deficiencies and make the necessary additions to help her. In the end, we did decide to use a low dose of medication to give her a little extra help with her concentration at school. OHS was able to help us with that also.

As of today, my daughter is doing so well. Everyone that knows her has complimented us on an amazing job. We are so very happy with the results, that our entire family of four made the same changes that she did. I myself have a diagnosis of Lyme disease and heavy metal toxicity. I had very similar issues as my daughter, so I became a patient at OHS also. This was life changing for me and I feel a million times better. Optimal Health Spectrums has changed my and my family’s life in such a positive way, and I am so very thankful for their services.
